Hearing Implant Clinical Services

You may have had a bilateral or unilateral hearing loss for many years which has gradually got worse.  You may have had a sudden onset bilateral or unilateral hearing loss due to head trauma or from an unknown cause.  You have tried or wear hearing aids but the benefit is limited.  If you are wondering if there is something else that might help reach out to us.  

WIthin private practice we are not bound by the NHS criteria.  This allows us to make a recommendation based on our clinical experience and the international evidence base where criteria are often different.   We will consider what may suit in terms of device type but also two implants or one.

We have supported individuals with very different hearing loss profiles.  We have experience working with individuals who have acquired single sided deafness and had a cochlear implant. They have been able to integrate the cochlear implant very successfully with their normal hearing ear.

A fully comprehensive assessment in the specialist area of hearing implants requires a team approach including Audiological, Rehabilitative, ENT and Radiological Assessment.

At Nightingale we carry out all core audiological and rehabilitative assessments required as part of a comprehensive assessment to complement the medical/surgical consultation and radiological assessment..

We have extensive experience of all hearing implants on the market for all types and causes of hearing loss.

 We will provide you with a complete understanding of your hearing loss and which implants are audiologically appropriate for you.  We will counsel you on expected outcomes and what to expect post surgery should you go ahead. 

On completion of all relevant assessments we will participate in a clinical meeting with the ENT Consultant to make a written team recommendation that is clinically appropriate for you. and can be shared with insurance companies if needed.

We accept self pay patients and are recognised by the majority of private medical insurance companies.

Our assessment packages consist of a series of core appointments.  

Combining thorough audiological assessments alongside person centred information, counselling and rehabilitation support. 

 A detailed team report and recommendation will complete the assessment.

Depending on where you live and your situation we can offer a combination of virtual as well as in person appointments to suit you.  Our in person appointments are carried out in Central London.

Once the surgery is complete your hearing journey is just beginning.  

All hearing implant interventions require specialist programming, maintenance and listening rehabilitative support at regular intervals to achieve optimal hearing outcomes.  

With our extensive experience we are able to programme all hearing implants optimally.  We can also offer second opinions and review your programming files.

Additionally we will support you with;

• Tailored listening training 
• Advice and training on assistive technology that works with your hearing implant processor

 We will take into account your goals and what is needed to achieve these.  

We can offer a combination of in person and virtual appointments to suit your individual needs.

Following surgery we offer a core series of programming and review appointments at set intervals interspersed with a core series of listening rehabilitation training appointments.   

We will be available to answer queries and check in with you in between your scheduled appointments via email, text, phone.

These packages of appointments are in line with UK National Quality Standards and allow patients to achieve optimal outcomes.
